A school visit to Kartanonkoski school on Friday 12.12.2025 invited a wide range of learners to share good cheer. The school has under one roof teaching groups for grades 1-9, disability education and preparatory education.
Vamlas had another opportunity to make children and young people happy together Santa Claus Foundation and Opportunity for a child rywith. The annual event, which has become a tradition, was organised as last year's school visit. It is important for us to reach out to children who may not have the opportunity to visit Santa Claus at public events or shopping centres, or to invite him to visit them on Christmas Eve. We want as many children as possible to have the opportunity to experience the Christmas spirit and meet Santa Claus. The best way to do this is to work with schools, as almost every child in Finland goes to school.

Santa Claus talked to children in the disability education groups at Kartanonkoski school.
”Come and see, it's Santa Claus!” shouts the school corridor, causing a small crowd around Santa. He gently greets everyone who offers his hand and nods to those who want to stand back. The passage through the canteen takes a little longer than planned. But that's okay. You can see the joy and happiness on the faces of children and young people!
Once the tungus has dissipated, we will be able to start our planned class visits. We will meet children in two disability education classes, where Santa's visit has been thoroughly prepared. The children are keen to talk about school and their school life. The children talk about starting school, their classmates and the things they do at school. There has also been a lot of outdoor activities and excursions by bus and train. Winter is expected to arrive and there will be ice-skating and skiing. The children are also looking forward to receiving small packages from Santa Claus. They are hoping for audio books, princess stories and legos. The children's letter has also included questions for Santa: ”What do you wish for Santa Claus? Will you be able to take a little holiday after Christmas Eve?” At this point in the school and working year, each of us deserves a moment of peace and quiet around Christmas.

Under the guidance of Vamlas and Mahdollisuus lapselle employees, the children relaxed for Christmas
In the next class, we meet the Preparatory Education pupils, who are older but also looking forward to Santa's visit. Some of the students have only recently arrived in Finland, and the Finnish language and culture is still new to many of them. Many have never seen Santa Claus before. So the initial conversation with Santa Claus is cautious and words are sought. However, everyone is encouraged by the situation in their own way. There is no common language with everyone. The pupils talk about living in Finland: some have been in the country for a year, others for a few weeks. It's also a good time to get to know Finnish culture. After all, we are Christmas land and Santa Claus' homeland. The pupils are interested in where Santa Claus lives. We move to the back of the classroom to study a map of Finland. Santa Claus talks about the nature and reindeer of Lapland. The initial excitement of the meeting has dissipated during the lesson and the children are in good spirits as they accompany Santa Claus on his journey.

Santa Claus and the pupils of Kartanonkoski Preparatory School explored together the map of Finnish Lapland
What was most pleasing about this year's school visit was the diversity of the encounters. Children, young people and adults of different ages, from different backgrounds and cultures were a joy to behold. Positive encounters and experiences are empowering and supportive regardless of personal characteristics. Christmas is also a time to share a common story, be together and experience the festive season.
Merry Christmas and light for the coming year 2026!
Wishing you:
Vamlas, Opportunity for a child ry and Santa Claus Foundation
